Right now, we have a butterfly biosphere open, and I just had to take Gwendolyn!
First of all, the biosphere itself was lush and gorgeous—and, to be honest, I’m humidity girl, so I was loving that, too. We spotted a butterfly straightaway, but we soon learned that there were loads butterflies sitting just about everywhere, if you took a moment to look for them. It really was cool to spot one or two, and then realize there were twice as many as you’d originally thought.
There were a large variety of different butterflies, including one very friendly individual who landed on everyone’s head—including mine, and Todd’s. That freaked out baby girl, and when he sock bun was falling out later, she assumed it was a butterfly on her head, and wigged the heck out (she’s definitely my daughter), so we had to leave.
Luckily, there was also a fun kids’ space set up with things to climb on, a huge iPad to explore bug anatomy with, and an indoor playground with various activities. If it weren’t for that, we might have felt a bit gypped, as the price, in my opinion, really should be half what it is.
Overall, I think if your kids are interested in butterflies at all, and you’re looking for a fun indoor activity that’s a little unique, definitely see if you have one locally, or check out the one at Thanksgiving Point. And, if you’re not a spaz like me, maybe your kids won’t end up terrorized from a lovely family outing.
