pocket-sized Provo travel guide

It’s finally summertime, and that means people are flocking to Provo, Utah to check out universities, or visit family and friends. As someone who has spent a (separate, yet) collective 9 years living here, I’ve put together a little travel guide so you can get the most out of your Provo experience.

This guide is meant to be a short-list of reasonably-priced, or free experiences for the student, or traveler. I’ll do some more in-depth individual category posts later.

Food:

  • Bombay House –– the best indian food around
  • Mozz Pizza –– my all-time favourite pizza
  • Green Panda –– delicious, homemade chinese
  • Shirley’s Cafe –– great sandwiches (and pastries, and hot chocolate)
  • CupBop –– korean bbq in a cup
  • Food Truck Roundup — my recommendation…try the grilled cheese

Desserts:

  • Rockwell –– best ice cream around
  • Taste –– for gourmet chocolate bars, and tastings
  • Penguin Brothers –– phenomenal ice cream sandwiches
  • Bianca’s Le Petite Bakery –– try the cronuts!

Outdoor Activities:

  • Bridalveil Falls –– an easy trail for the whole family
  • Bike the Provo River Trail –– why not rent tandem bikes?
  • The Shops at Riverwoods —enjoy the evening window shopping, grabbing a bite to eat, or even listening to live music
  • Provo Canyon –– if you go past Bridalveil, you can pop into Vivian, South Fork, or Big Springs for some good hiking, or simply to picnic
  • Walk Center Street –– many of the eateries I listed can be found here, plus some other shops, as well at the City Center temple. You can even search around for the murals painted all over

Indoor Activities:

  • See a show at BYU — whether it’s put on by the school, or a traveling performance
  • The Quarry –– move a bit at this indoor rock climbing facility
  • Visit a bookstore –– BYU bookstore, or Pioneer books
  • Provo Rec Center –– water. slides.

A few of my favourites in the surrounding area:

  • Lehi Doughnuts –– the best doughnuts around; definitely get an Old Fashioned!
  • Sundance –– You can drive, or hike around in the area, or check out a nice restaurant
  • Midway –– a magical land with some fun activities
  • Just Add Chocolate –– if you’ve ever wanted to make your own chocolates, this is for you
