Growing up, both my husband and I had moms who decorated for each season. At the beginning of our marriage, we bough a lot of seasonal decor, as well. However, once we moved towards minimalism, I found most of that stuff didn’t really spark joy. But I did still want a way to make Fall—and the excitement that comes with it—feel a little bit different.
I wanted the outside of our home to be welcoming, and in season, so we do an autumn leaf wreath, and an assortment of pumpkins. This is the second year I’ve decorated this way, and I love it. Picking out the pumpkins is fun—for me and my toddler—and I think it makes a statement, without being too much (in looks, or effort).
Inside, I’m very minimal. I have a pumpkin with lights that brings a hygge vibe—and I basically leave it on all the time. It’s just nice to have an extra cozy glow when the days get shorter.
The only other thing I put out is a garland. In this house, I like to put in on the opening to our walkway. I think it’s another simple, yet impactful piece—and you definitely notice it when going about your day.
We make things pretty uncomplicated this time of year, but, for me, not having to switch out loads of Fall decorations for Christmas ones sparks joy (because we do go all out for Christmas!).
