Recently, our sidecar crib broke. Instead of just replacing it in anticipation for baby #2, Todd suggested we get Gwendolyn a toddler bed. Well, as soon as she saw ‘house beds’, she was bouncing off the walls. However, we really needed the replacement for the crib to fit in the crib’s space, as we have a doorway right there. So, Todd decided to build a custom-sized house bed.
We scanned Pinterest for inspiration, and Gwendolyn let us know that she liked the ‘traditional’ house bed with windows. Also, she needed a black star pillow, a white star pillow, lights, and curtains. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited that she was expressing some interior design opinions. This is the first space she’s been able to totally control.
Since my husband is not a woodworker, he decided that, if he was going to take on such a big project, he wanted to do it such that he would be really proud of the final product. For him, that meant doing everything by hand, and having everything dry fit, so that it’d be really sleek when it was finished.
In total, the project took about a month to complete—so everyone was very glad to have it over with, and crossed off the list.
Honestly, I’m super impressed with the result, and with Todd for spending hours any time her could find to get it done. Also, Gwendolyn adores her bed!
