At the end of Summer, we checked off something I’ve been wanting ot do for ages: the provo mural walk. We’ve seen so many of the murals, but I wanted to make a day of seeing as many as we could (we got like 95% of them). It was a fun family activity, even with little-little kids, as most of the murals are really close together.
At local businesses, you can pick up a mural map, which will allow you to plan out a route, and find as many murals as possible.
I think this one of the top left is probably the worse mural in provo. Todd and I like to joke that the person who commissioned it asked the artist if he knew what horses looked like, and the artist was like, “…uh, yeah; sure; of course……’
The giant gorgeous postcards are one of my favourites! They are h u g e.
The bug mural is fun, as you can become a bug yourself in several spots––spider, butterfly––it’s up to you.
This JJ’s Burgers mural is neat. Try posing yourself to try and blend in with the other people.
Bike Provo!
The polka dot mural is, I think, one of the most popular photo spots in town.
Fun faces mural. The longer you look, the more you notice. The more time you take the enjoy this one, the more you’ll see. I like that this one suggests you stop for a bit.
what a bad boy
The mural at Taste is stunning, and has hidden figures in it (not pictured, especially as this is such a narrow picture).
The biggest letdown of our walkabout was this interactive mural. You’re meant to text codes to get the mural to play certain music and lights. However, I found the codes limited (they only give you a couple of examples of what you can text, and not even all of those worked.) and not really worth waiting around for.
Bonus! As we passed Third Space Studios, we found a cat in the window. Upon further inspection, there were more cats inside. Look at how happy they are. Delightful surprise.
Pioneer Book’s exterior is a staple mural in Provo, so we had to get a shot of it.
TBH, harry was not particularly interested in the murals. He much preferred playing in dirty puddles, and swinging from bike racks.
This grey mural on the left is really fun, but I think it needs a platform, so you can get pics right in the center. Also, that red parking sign needs to go.
Our walk was the first time I’d seen the mountain one on the right, and it was truly lovely. I’m a fan.
Classic Provo mural. ‘The Best Gift is You’. There’s a pesky sign smack in the middle now, so not sure people will be taking less photos in front of it now, I’d expect.
One Time In Provo is a photo-op stop. Unfortunately, it had been graffiti’d when we did this (thankfully cleaned up now), but I cropped it so as to not immortalize defacement of public property.
If you’re looking to get out, or walk around and explore Provo a bit, I would recommend searching for the many murals around town.
Even with the weather getting colder now, If you go to the main ‘hub’, you’ll be able to see lots!
