Last year was the first year I did a proper advent. Growing up, we did Playmobile and an ornament advent calendar, but I really wanted to do something more for Gwendolyn. It was such a wonderful thing! There was something notable that we could recall from every day, and I honestly treasure that month––it was so slow and connected for us.
This year, I’m excited to do it again, even if Harry probably won’t be that impressed (next year, kid!). The most important thing, though, is to know what you’re doing each day for 24 days. And it can be hard to figure out, because you want it to be enjoyable, but also age-appropriate. In our case, I also wanted to avoid all candy, have a large focus on things we could do together, and not spend too much.
If you’re wanting to take part in advent this year, here’s my master list of ideas. These ideas span a variety of ages––there are some I’ll have to wait to do, and some that we did last year that we probably won’t include this year.
Here’s was last year’s line up for a 2 year old, as well as my list for this year:
Have you done advent before? What are some of your favourite things to do––I’d love more ideas!
